I just got another inane spam email ... this time from someone actually on my "friends" list. The original email contained no less than ten valid email addys! Good thing I'm not a spammer. Here's what I wrote them back ...
This is spam and a hoax. It is physically impossible to track individual emails or instant messages on the net in the way this email suggests. With the way MSN closes inactive accounts after several months of non-usage that there are literally millions of account names still available. It is also very evident from the way the email contains numerous spelling and grammatical errors that it would never have originated from anyone remotely connected with MSN or Microsoft. Next time check with me before sending this type of spam out. Incidentally, your MSN icon is ALREADY BLUE!
Cheers - DoC
ps: IT'S A BAD IDEA TO INCLUDE ANY EMAIL ADDRESSES IN YOUR FORWARDS - SEE http://www.elder-computers.com/bcc.htm FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON USING BCC. If I were a spammer I'd now have 10 fresh names to send a million ads for Viagra and home mortgages to! (yes I know I'm yelling!)
Read this asinine email below ...
Here's the original email I received - with the email addresses deleted & spelling/grammatical errors left intact ...
sorry every one Hey it is Andy and John the directors of MSN, sorry for the interruption but msn is closing down. This is because too many inconsiderate people are taking up all the names (eg making up lots of different accounts for just one person), we only have 578 names left. If you would like to close your account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. If you would like to keep your account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. This is no joke, we will be shutting down the servers. Send it on, thanks. The use of msn and hotmail will cost money from summer 2006. If you send this message to 18 different people from your list your little icon will become blue and that will make it free for you. If you dont believe me go on (www.msn.com) and see it yourself.
Dont foward this message copy paste it so people will actually read it.
In closing - this might actually be funny if it didn't cost so much bandwidth and wasted time emailing back my "friends" the news it is spam.
